The 40mm focal length sits between 35mm wide and 50mm normal, a versatile view close to human vision. Key Features

• Pancake design (smallest and lightest): a very small, very light lens (just 144g and only 32.4mm long!) that turns your Leica into a compact, discreet camera — ideal for all-day street shooting
• 40mm focal length (versatile view): sits between 35mm (wide) and 50mm (standard), a perspective close to human vision for natural-looking images across portrait, street and landscape work
• Ultra-high resolution (supports 70MP+ sensors): despite its size, it delivers very high sharpness and detail, getting the most out of high-resolution cameras
• Minimum focus distance 0.4m (40cm): focus as close as 40cm to shoot small subjects or create subject separation from the background, even at F5.6
• All-metal build: the entire lens is made of metal — solid, durable and with an excellent feel for manual focusing
• Medium format support (no vignetting): designed to cover full-frame sensors and can also be used on medium format cameras (such as Fujifilm GFX) in 33×44mm mode without vignetting

FAQ

• Q: What's special about 40mm?
A: 40mm is the view closest to human vision (more so than 50mm). It was a favorite of Henri Cartier-Bresson and served as the standard lens on the Leica CL/CM in the past.
• Q: How do I use it on Fujifilm GFX?
A: This lens's image circle covers a 33×44mm medium format sensor. Use an M-to-GFX adapter to mount it on a GFX 50/100 in 33×44 mode with no vignetting; it works as a ~31mm-equivalent lens.
• Q: Is the rangefinder coupling accurate?
A: Yes — it couples correctly with the rangefinder patch on Leica M cameras and handles just like a genuine Leica lens.
