AstrHori MF 120mm F2.8 Full Frame 2X Macro Lens — Full Frame 120mm F2.8 Macro — 2:1 Macro + Tripod Collar

The AstrHori MF 120mm F2.8 Full Frame Macro Lens is a mid-telephoto macro with up to 2:1 (2x) magnification. The 120mm focal length gives a long working distance, making lighting easier and avoiding disturbing the subject. The F2.8 aperture is wide enough for attractive bokeh, the de-clicked aperture ring suits video work, and a rotating tripod collar makes switching orientation easy — all in an all-metal build.

Key Features

  • Up to 2:1 (2x) magnification: a macro lens that renders subjects at up to twice life size! Ideal for exploring fine detail in insects, plants or material textures that require high magnification.
  • 120mm focal length (comfortable working distance): the long 120mm focal length provides a greater working distance than typical macro lenses, making it easier to light your subject without disturbing moving subjects (such as insects).
  • Wide F2.8 aperture (bright for a macro): delivers bright, sharp images and beautiful background blur (bokeh) even in limited light.
  • De-clicked aperture ring: the aperture ring turns without clicks for smooth, silent adjustment — ideal for video (cinematography).
  • All-metal construction (durable and stable): the lens body and metal hood are carefully built for strength and an excellent feel, and it comes with a tripod collar that rotates in any direction for stability in macro work.

Best For

  • Professional macro photography (insects, flowers, small animals)
  • Product / jewelry / product detail photography
  • Wedding rings / wedding details
  • Portraits at normal distance (120mm suits half-body shots)
  • Macro cinematography video (de-clicked)
  • Naturalist / documentary photographers

FAQ

  • Q: What is the difference between 2:1 macro and 1:1 macro?
A: 1:1 = the subject appears at life size — 2:1 = the subject appears twice life size — so you capture finer detail in insects and plants than with a typical macro lens.
  • Q: Why is 120mm better than 90mm or 100mm?
A: Longer working distance — you don't need to get as close to insects or flowers, so you disturb the subject less and lighting is easier.
  • Q: Why is a tripod collar necessary?
A: A 120mm macro lens has weight and needs stability — the tripod collar lets you mount the lens (rather than the camera) to the tripod and change orientation easily without moving the tripod.
