AstrHori MF 12mm F2.8 Full Frame Diagonal Fisheye Lens 185° — Full-Frame-Filling 185° Diagonal Fisheye for Full Frame

The AstrHori MF 12mm F2.8 is a Full Frame diagonal fisheye that fills the entire frame (not a circular image), offering an incredible 185° angle of view. The F2.8 aperture is bright enough for astrophotography and night shooting, and the 11-element, 8-group multi-coated design controls flare, ghosting and coma very well — the most affordable Full Frame fisheye on the market.

Key Features

  • A full-frame (diagonal) fisheye that projects an image across the entire Full Frame sensor (not circular).
  • An incredibly wide 185-degree angle of view lets you fit the most into every shot.
  • Excellent low-light performance, suited to astrophotography and night shots with good sharpness and very well-controlled coma.
  • Superior optical design: 11 elements in 8 groups with multilayer coating to reduce flare and ghosting for high sharpness to the edges.
  • Easy-to-use manual focus (MF): an all-metal lens with engraved focus distance scale and a clicked aperture ring for precise, steady control.
  • 20 cm minimum focus: focuses as close as 0.2m (20 cm), letting you get close to the subject for interesting distortion effects.
  • Well-balanced size and weight: a robust all-metal barrel weighing approx. 757g that feels good in the hand.

Best For

  • Astrophotography, the Milky Way and night landscapes
  • Wide-angle landscapes with a fisheye effect
  • Interiors / architecture
  • Real estate photography
  • Action sports / skateboarding
  • Creative / music video work needing a curved perspective

FAQ

  • Q: What is the difference between a diagonal fisheye and a circular fisheye?
A: A diagonal fisheye (this lens) fills the frame with a 185° image, practical for landscape / real estate work, while a circular fisheye projects a round image within the frame and is more about creative effects.
  • Q: Is F2.8 good for shooting stars?
A: Very good — at F2.8 and 12mm, the 500 rule allows ~41 seconds without star trails, with coma well controlled by the 11-element design.
  • Q: Can images be defished to look normal?
A: Yes. Use Lightroom / DxO / Photoshop to defish into a normal ultra-wide image — though some of the edges will be cropped.
