Brightin Star AF 12mm F2.8 Zero-D Autofocus Full Frame Ultra Wide-Angle Lens — The First 12mm Autofocus Ultra-Wide on Sony E, ~120° Zero-D, Weather Sealed

The Brightin Star AF 12mm F2.8 Zero-D is an ultra-wide prime for full-frame cameras and the first 12mm lens on Sony E mount with built-in autofocus, with full Eye AF and Tracking support (most competitors at this focal length are still manual). Its field of view of approximately 120° takes in sweeping views, buildings, tight rooms and starry skies. The Zero-D design keeps distortion close to zero so straight lines stay straight, ideal for architecture and real estate. The 15-element, 11-group optical design with aspherical, high-refractive and ED elements controls chromatic aberration for crisp, clean edges. The F2.8 aperture makes Milky Way and night shooting easy, and it adds an aperture ring, Fn button, dust and splash sealing, and a built-in metal hood.

Key Features

  • First AF 12mm on Sony E — a 12mm prime with built-in autofocus and full Eye AF / Tracking (most competitors at this focal length are manual)
  • Extra-wide ~120° view — captures sweeping views, buildings, tight rooms and starry skies
  • Zero-D, near-zero distortion — straight lines stay straight, ideal for architecture/real estate
  • F2.8 for night work — easily shoot the Milky Way and low-light scenes
  • 15 elements in 11 groups (Aspherical + ED) — controls distortion and chromatic aberration for crisp, clean edges
  • ~34mm rear filter slot — the bulbous front element can't take front filters, but rear ND filters fit
  • Aperture ring + Fn button + weather sealing + metal hood — fully equipped, dust and splash resistant

Best For

  • Wide landscapes and scenery
  • Architecture / real estate / room shots
  • Astrophotography and the Milky Way
  • Handheld wide-angle vlogging
  • Interiors and tight spaces

FAQ

  • Q: Can I use CPL or ND filters?
A: Not on the front, because the front element bulges out, as is natural for ultra-wide lenses. However, the lens has a rear filter slot of approx. 34mm for rear sheet ND filters.
  • Q: What is Zero-D and how is it different from ordinary wide-angle lenses?
A: Zero-D is a design that keeps image distortion close to zero so straight lines stay straight, unlike typical wide-angle lenses that often bow at the edges. That makes it ideal for architecture where true straight lines matter.
  • Q: Does it support Eye AF / Tracking?
A: Fully. It is an AF lens that communicates completely with Sony cameras — a key advantage, since most 12mm lenses are still manual focus.
